Dopo la notizia della davvero troppo prematura morte di Zac Denton a soli 24 anni (trovate un bel ricordo su Noisey, e un piccolo doveroso omaggio l'avevo dedicato anche io in radio qualche tempo fa), gli Ocean Party hanno purtroppo deciso di sciogliersi:
After our brother, friend and bandmate Zac Denton tragically passed away in late 2018, we felt that writing new material without him wouldn’t feel right and the time has come to call it quits.
C'è però un ultimo disco in arrivo per il super prolifico gruppo australiano, una manciata di canzoni scritte dallo stesso Denton che andranno a comporre un EP d'addio intitolato Nothing Grows: "Zac recorded all of his parts for the songs and directed the other band members to add to them in their own time. The process was out of character for the band who usually recorded together and tried to be minimal with over-dubs, but with Zac's death in late 2018 it was clear that there could have been no other way".
La title-track che apre e anticipa l'uscita della raccolta suona incredibilmente amara, con l'immagine di una isolata fattoria che cade a pezzi mentre passano le stagioni e la solitudine consuma ogni idea di vita: "It's too cold here in the winter / And nothing grows here in the summer / Light the fires please my sweet / Let's just lie here in peace".
"In peace", caro Zac.
